From the person who gave me such sincere advice while I was still considering the tour, to the guide who made sure I could relax and enjoy everything without worrying about a thing, to the driver who took us all the way to the airport at the end — this was my first guided tour, and I was truly able to relax and enjoy it. The friend and my mother who came with me are already saying they want to go again, that next time they want to try riding at a faster pace, and that they’d like to visit Uzbekistan too. It was a tour that everyone who joined could enjoy.
    Thank you so much.

I wanted to do a horse riding trip in Kyrgyzstan, and this site came up while I was browsing on Instagram. I felt reassured that a Japanese person was handling the email exchanges (since there are many places abroad you can't really trust).

    • Round-trip transfers: Satisfaction ★5 / What was good: Clear, efficient service.
    • Meals: Satisfaction ★5 / What was good: Everything was delicious, and I loved that there were so many home-style dishes. When traveling I usually end up eating out a lot, but I believe home cooking is the best way to get to know the local culture, so this made me really happy.
    • Horse riding: Satisfaction ★4 / What was good: Riding a horse through beautiful nature really does feel wonderful!

Everyone who took care of us on the tour was wonderful.
From the very beginning, Sugi replied carefully to my detailed questions and requests and gave me advice, so I was able to set off with peace of mind.
Aibek came across as very experienced. He stayed calm and flexible, chatted with us about all sorts of things and made jokes, so we could relax and have fun.
Kuna knew the history of every place in detail, explained so much to us, and even used a personal drone to film videos that became wonderful memories. I could really feel the effort to make sure we enjoyed ourselves to the fullest.
I only met Nuriya once, at the very end, but as the heart of ASHU TRAVEL she looked out for us and even gave us chocolates as a souvenir. I really appreciated her thoughtfulness.

What stayed with me most was the journey to Lake Song-Kul

[8/28 shared tour, now booking] Issyk-Kul Sightseeing by Train & Riding at Song-Kul | 3 Nights / 4 Days from Bishkek [Beginners OK]

    Yoshiki 20s / Male

    August 2026

They started planning the tour with me six months in advance. I’m quite particular, and rather than just sightseeing, I was looking for something that would let me experience the country’s culture as it really is.

So this time I combined a Song-Kul + train tour, Russian language study and a homestay, and stayed in Kyrgyzstan for a long time.

First, I made some fairly demanding requests — could I ride the “Blue Issyk-Kul” train, which only runs in summer in Kyrgyzstan, and then see Lake Issyk-Kul and go horse riding at Song-Kul? — and ASHU made it all happen.

What stayed with me most was the journey to Lake Song-Kul. Driving on and on along off-road tracks and passing right through herds of horses, sheep, cattle and other livestock was a fresh experience.
Walking around Bishkek is nice too, but I think it’s in the remote heart of Kyrgyzstan that you can really feel things deep inside.

My Russian study was different from how I had studied in Russia before: I was able to learn Russian woven together with Kyrgyz culture, and it broadened my knowledge of the Russian-speaking world.

I could put this to use at my homestay as well, where almost every night we talked about home cooking, Kyrgyz identity, our outlooks on life and more.

Kyrgyzstan is a country with a beauty different from Japan’s. Spending time with the fun-loving Kyrgyz people might even make you rethink your own values. I really hope you’ll come to Kyrgyzstan and experience the differences from Japan, nomadic culture, and the world of the Russian and Kyrgyz languages.

    What could be improved

If I could ask for more, it might be nice to have a plan where you stay around Lake Issyk-Kul on the first night and then head to the ASHU Guest House.
This time I had time constraints, but the Kyrgyz people around me strongly urged me to visit Cholpon-Ata next time.

Thank you so much for everything this time. It was my first time in Kyrgyzstan, and I found it fascinating how Russian and Asian cultures blend to form a unique culture.
There are still so many places in remote Kyrgyzstan that I don't know.
I definitely want to visit the places I couldn't get to this time.

    [Why I chose ASHU TRAVEL]
Sugi studies Russian, and I could feel a genuine commitment to strengthening ties between Japan and Central Asia. They were also flexible about arranging things like the train tour and the homestay.

Nuriya → Fluent in Japanese, Russian and Kyrgyz, and knows everything about Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia — truly knowledgeable. She looks so cool on horseback; I could feel the soul of a nomad in her.

Aibek → He puts everything he has into his driving and his guiding. His spirit of hospitality came through to me too, and I think he's a man with a big, warm heart.

Sugi → I also want to see ties between Central Asia and Japan deepen, so I thought taking on part of that role must be tough. I'm also very grateful that we could talk about nomadic culture, Russian and all sorts of things, and that Sugi helped me with consultations before the trip.

I'd become curious about Kyrgyzstan and was searching all over, when I came across them on Instagram and got interested. Joining alone was too expensive for my budget, so for a long time I only had a booking request in. Normally you can't recruit others for a shared tour without a confirmed booking, but they were very flexible with me. Sugiura handled every email exchange so carefully, and although I was also in touch with other local tour operators and custom travel agencies, I had decided that if even one person joined to share the tour, I would definitely go with ASHU TRAVEL. I'm glad other participants did join.

    • Accommodation: Satisfaction ★5 / What was good: Every place was comfortable. I was surprised that even the yurt camp had flush toilets.
    • Round-trip transfers: Satisfaction ★5 / What was good: On the way back I took a taxi because of my flight schedule, but they stayed and saw me off until I got in, which I really appreciated. / What could be improved: When they came to pick me up at the hotel on the first day, nobody showed up for about 30 minutes after the scheduled time, and I got a little anxious...
    • Meals: Satisfaction ★5 / What was good: Every dish was really delicious, and I was very happy to be able to eat so much. My favorite was the manti we had at the yurt at Lake Song-Kul.
    • Horse riding: Satisfaction ★5 / What was good: It was my first time ever on a horse, but they carefully taught me how to ride, and I got used to it faster than I expected. Cantering was quite scary and I couldn't fully bring myself to try it, but riding through such magnificent scenery felt like stepping out of everyday life and became an unforgettable memory.

With such fluent Japanese and a lovely personality, Raku made me feel at ease throughout the whole tour. On the way back from Song-Kul, Raku let us try kumis (fermented mare's milk) and made time for us to swim in Lake Issyk-Kul — we got to have so many special experiences beyond the itinerary. Raku's riding skills were amazing too.
    Driver
There were a lot of bumpy roads on the way to Song-Kul, but the driver drove very carefully to keep the ride as smooth as possible. The driver also stopped at many spots, wherever there were animals or beautiful views, to give us time to take photos.

The tour was so much fun that I’m suffering from “Kyrgyzstan withdrawal” (; 😉 My body has come home, but my heart hasn’t lol

I’d been looking forward to this for ages after hearing we could ride horses up into the mountains — with amazing views, no less.
Actually trekking with adorable horses through such magnificent nature went beyond what I’d imagined, and I was thrilled to ride on so many types of terrain (mountain trails, forests, rivers, plains).
All the meals were homemade and full of the flavors of herbs, vegetables and meat — food I never got tired of.

I usually spend my days surrounded by asphalt and electronic devices, so playing in nature during the day and eating delicious food made for a really good time ♪
While we were enjoying the great outdoors, every place we stayed was clean, including the bathrooms, so I could relax — it felt like such a luxury. (I’m so grateful the lodgings had proper toilets.)

The guides and the people at the lodgings were all wonderful, and the other tour participants were fun too, so every day was enjoyable. Getting to talk with people from different backgrounds is one of the real joys of a group tour.
I’ll be looking forward to any new tours you come up with! Thank you so much 😊

This tour involved a lot of travel by road, so it would have been nice to know in advance that the drives would be fairly long. (It would help to have something like "about ⚫︎ hours to the next destination" in the itinerary, or announced to everyone when the bus departs ◎)

    • Round-trip transfers: Satisfaction ★4 / What was good: Safe driving. Having transfers both ways was very much appreciated. / What could be improved: On arrival on the first day, we waited about an hour for everyone to gather, and since it was late at night, that was a bit tough. (Given the weather, I think waiting outside rather than in the car would have been fine.)
    • Meals: Satisfaction ★5 / What was good: They used fresh ingredients and always served us warm meals, which I appreciated. / What could be improved: Nothing in particular
    • Horse riding: Satisfaction ★4 / What was good: The horses were well-behaved, and having several staff members experienced with horses with us was reassuring. / What could be improved: It couldn't be helped because of the weather, but it was a shame we lost a day of riding. If possible, it would be great if you could show us how to use our legs and hips, even just once, before cantering — I think we'd be able to ride more comfortably!

Raku: Raku always kept a close eye on everyone, both while riding and throughout the tour, and I could really feel Raku's sincerity. There's a playful side too, and Raku was fun to talk to! I heard Raku hasn't been with ASHU for very long, but I can't help thinking guiding might be Raku's true calling...?
Sugi: Thank you for supporting us so carefully, both before and during the trip, so that everyone could enjoy themselves. I'd never chosen a tour because of the guide before, but a year ago, after a tour in Mongolia, I was handed an ASHU flyer and thought, "If Sugi recommends it, I want to go!" I was told Sugi doesn't accompany every tour, so I was happy we got to travel together this time too!
Shamili: While we participants were absorbed in sightseeing, Shamili was always a step ahead making sure we kept to the schedule, which I really appreciated. At first glance Shamili seems quiet and unassuming, but Shamili served out food for us, and once we started talking, the reactions were just adorable. 감사합니다~!

I’m not a good rider, but if I may ask for more, it would have been even better to have some time to ride freely in an open grassy area. Of course, in that case, falling off or getting injured would be at our own risk. If I could do this, I think it would be good practice. There were some really skilled riders, and I admired them.

    • Accommodation: Satisfaction ★4
    • Round-trip transfers: Satisfaction ★4 / What could be improved: When I arrived, no one was there to pick me up, and maybe because of the signal, WhatsApp wasn't getting through either, so I was a bit at a loss.
    • Meals: Satisfaction ★5 / What was good: At restaurants we could order whatever we liked, which was nice. I also finally got to try kumis (fermented mare's milk), which I'd been wanting to do. It was delicious.
    • Horse riding: Satisfaction ★4 / What could be improved: The horse handler on the last day was terrible — a real problem. Their customer service was unacceptable. Maybe because they wanted to protect the horse, they said they would lead my horse, so I left it to them, but they led it while looking at their smartphone and talking on the phone, and I, on horseback, nearly hit my face on the thick, slanted trunk of a tree and almost got injured. I was extremely angry. Leading the horse is unnecessary unless the guest asks for it.

On the third day the sky cleared and we enjoyed amazing views

Riding & Hot Springs in Jeti-Oguz, Kyrgyzstan | 5 Nights / 6 Days from Bishkek!

    T.S / Female

    September 2026

We had some rain on the first and second days, but on the third day it cleared up and we enjoyed spectacular views. To make up for the rain, they let us ride along the lakeshore, which was really nice. The food was delicious too — more than we could finish. Besides riding, we also enjoyed the hot springs and the bazaar.

Our guide Nuriya has lived in Japan before; she was kind and friendly, and I was able to travel with peace of mind. I got to have a meal with Sugi on the last day, and I could feel Sugi's passion and dedication as a guide for Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan. (The driver who came with us was great too, but I don't know the driver's name.)

Nuriya → I was moved by her attention to detail, like adjusting the schedule with the weather, our health and so many other things in mind. Adjusting the schedule while listening to everyone's opinions must have been really, really hard, yet she always handled it with a smile, and I'm so grateful.
When we said goodbye at the airport, she kept waving until we were out of sight, and I almost cried... Thanks to Nuriya, it was a truly fun trip.
I just love Nuriya's calm, warm and gentle presence! I'm looking forward to the day we meet again.

Driver (I'm sorry I forgot your name...) → I didn't get to say goodbye at the end, but thank you so much for driving us safely for six days!
At a restaurant, the bench was a little too far from the table and it was slightly hard to eat, but it looked heavy and not quite worth the trouble of moving — and you smoothly moved it for us. You also served out food for us. Even without a shared language, your ability to sense what we needed and your kindness helped us many times. You were both soothing and very reassuring to have around.
I'll never forget your cute smile when your T-shirt got a compliment lol

    T.H. 90s / Female

The best part of the riding was the riding hike in Jeti-Oguz. The scenery was so stunning that it almost felt like a waste to canter through it. That said, it would be boring without a bit of cantering, so I’m glad they let us do some. Besides riding, there was sightseeing at historic ruins, shopping at the bazaar, hot springs and more — a well-balanced itinerary that was perfect for us as first-timers in Kyrgyzstan.
Everyone who joined us this time was lovely too, and we had a fun, friendly time together.

    What could be improved

This is less a problem with the tour itself, but I would have liked a bit more information about the tour. This time there was more driving than I had imagined. For example, I'd like a rough guide such as "this tour includes X days / X hours of riding."

    Message
    to ASHU TRAVEL

By the time we went shopping at the bazaar, none of us had any som in cash, and in the end the only thing we could use was small US dollar bills. I think you could even go so far as to tell people not to bring anything other than $5 and $1 bills. It would also help to give rough prices for souvenirs as a guide. The most popular item, white honey, was $4 for the smallest jar. Nuts and tea depend on the item and weight.

    [Why I chose ASHU TRAVEL]
For one thing, it happened to come up on my Facebook feed and caught my interest. The timing matched when I could travel, the tour content was good, and with the shared tour I could join on my own at a lower price. They also accommodated my vegetarian diet. (Tsokto turned this down for their tours.)

    • Accommodation: Satisfaction ★4 / What was good: All the hotels were good. The gas stove in the yurt was wonderfully warm! / What could be improved: At the yurt camp, the way to the toilet was dark and far, which was a bit of a problem.
    • Round-trip transfers: Satisfaction ★4 / What was good: I think it was good. / What could be improved: Nothing in particular. I used YandexGO on the way back.
    • Meals: Satisfaction ★5 / What was good: Variety and generous portions. The watermelon was especially delicious! / What could be improved: The variety of vegetables was a bit limited... It was cucumbers and tomatoes every time, so I got tired of them toward the end. But the cucumbers themselves tasted better than the ones in Japan.
    • Horse riding: Satisfaction ★5 / What was good: On sunny days the riding felt truly wonderful. I took lots of photos and had lots taken of me, which made great memories — you don't often get the chance to have someone photograph you riding. Getting to go faster just the right amount was a plus too ◯ / What could be improved: It was fine for me, but some shorter people were assigned to big horses and seemed to have trouble riding. They did get their horses changed after mentioning it, though.

Hands down number one. Not only her deep knowledge of the sights, but her professionalism in wanting guests to be happy, her flexibility, her attentive support for individual needs, hospitality that knows exactly what Japanese travelers need, and her bright, humorous personality — so charming. Even during long, idle stretches in the car, a single offhand remark from her would get everyone laughing. I'd love to join another tour guided by Nuriya!

It was my first time in Kyrgyzstan, and it turned out to be an even more wonderful trip than I had imagined!

Feeling the horse’s powerful, steady steps as it climbed steep mountain trails while making our way through vast nature was a precious experience you rarely get in Japan. Feeling the strength of horses firsthand also left a strong impression on me.

Checking the weather, the temperature, the situation each day and what participants wanted, they came up with the best possible schedule at every turn, and I was able to enjoy my trip in Kyrgyzstan to the fullest.

The time I spent with our guide Nuriya, the people I met locally and my fellow participants is also a priceless memory. Interacting with people you’d rarely meet in Japan was very inspiring and made the trip even more enjoyable.

It was a truly wonderful trip that made me sincerely think, “I want to come back to Kyrgyzstan!”
    Thank you so much.

Cantering across the grasslands, as I’d long dreamed, is a memory I’ll never forget

Perfect for a First Trip to Kyrgyzstan! Lake Issyk-Kul & Spectacular Riding in Chong-Kemin | 1 Night / 2 Days and Up from Bishkek [No experience needed]

    H.B 20s / Female

    September 2026

My private tour in Kyrgyzstan turned out to be the best trip, far beyond anything I’d imagined.
At lunch on the first day, when I said, “I want to eat Kyrgyz food!”, they immediately changed restaurants and took me to one, and throughout the trip they attentively accommodated my wishes.
The horse riding I’d been looking forward to most had such breathtaking scenery spread out before me that I felt, “I may never have a riding experience better than this!” The moment I finally cantered across the grasslands, as I’d long dreamed of doing, is a memory I’ll never forget.
The lodging was super comfortable, the homemade food was truly delicious, and with campfires at night and stargazing under a sky full of stars, every day was wonderful.
The driver slowed down whenever I wanted to take photos of the view from the car window and taught me Kyrgyz along the way — I have nothing but gratitude for the driver’s warm hospitality.

This rich, riding-focused tour gave me a precious experience you can’t have on an ordinary sightseeing trip. I was surprised that a 2.5-hour mountain-climbing ride right on the first day was described as a “warm-up.” It couldn’t be helped given the schedule, but it was a bit of a shame that we couldn’t take our time at the bazaar. I hope the road improvements make quick progress.

The drives are fairly long, so I'd love more commentary from the guide about the scenery along the way and Kyrgyz culture.

    [Most memorable scenery / spot]
The flowers and mountain streams I saw on the way up the mountain on horseback from the ASHU Guest House, and the sunset over the shore of Lake Issyk-Kul.

    [Guide's hospitality]
I felt I could leave the riding completely in the guide's hands. We also ate meals together and talked about all sorts of things, which was fun.

    • Accommodation: Satisfaction ★5 / What was good: Both guesthouses were comfortable. In the rooms at the ASHU Guest House, if you lock the door from the outside, it can't be opened from the inside, so you need to be careful when someone is in the room. The pool was deep and I couldn't touch the bottom, so a depth sign would be reassuring.
    • Meals: Satisfaction ★5 / What was good: The menu was different every time, so I got to enjoy all kinds of Kyrgyz dishes, and everything was delicious.
    • Horse riding: Satisfaction ★5 / What was good: At first I was terrified, but the guide led my horse and I somehow managed to keep up. It was more challenging riding than I had imagined. On day 2, during the riding at Lake Issyk-Kul, there was only one person escorting us, on a motorbike, which made me a little uneasy.

Then I saw Sugiura on TV and learned I could join a tour in Japanese, which made me want to go even more, and when I found just the right tour on Instagram, I signed up. Since it's a country that isn't well known yet, they designed the tour to be very considerate of participants, which made me feel safe. Thank you very much.

    [Most memorable scenery / spot]
On day 2, riding on horseback: the mountains and flower fields we saw just before heading into the mountains, and an incredibly beautiful little stream.

    Nothing in particular.

    [Most memorable scenery/spot]
The highland where we did the falconry.

We hit it off talking about Osaka, and the conversations were fun.

I felt confident deciding to join the tour

Riding, Falconry & Hiking at Song-Kul & Issyk-Kul | Departing Kyrgyzstan, 5-Day/4-Night+ Tour [No Experience Needed]

    O.N 50s / Male

    August 2026

It was my first time in Central Asia, but Mr. Sugiura kindly helped me from the moment I started considering the trip, so I felt confident deciding to join the tour. Thank you so much for all your help back then.
On the ground, both the guide and the driver were wonderful people, and I could always feel that they were putting us first. Thanks to them, it was a truly satisfying trip.
And then there’s Kyrgyzstan’s magnificent nature! One breathtaking view after another – no matter how many photos I took or how many words I strung together, I couldn’t express how moved I was, which was almost frustrating. And whenever we gathered around the table, we feasted on delicious food night after night! I was surprised at how well Kyrgyz cuisine suits the Japanese palate. Apparently there’s a legend that our ancestors were originally brothers: the one who loved fish went east and became the Japanese, and the one who loved meat went west and became the Kyrgyz. That story of a connection going back to ancient times made me feel even closer to the country. The people, the food, the nature – everything was excellent, and my stay in Kyrgyzstan was very pleasant.

Riding for hours across a vast landscape on a scale you could never compare with riding in Japan was exhilarating and so much fun. It was also my first time staying in a yurt, so it was a rare experience, and seeing a sky full of stars was wonderful too. I got to have experiences you could never have on a regular sightseeing trip, and Nuriya and all the other staff, as well as my fellow participants, were such lovely people. It was a really fun, memorable trip that I’ll remember for the rest of my life. Thank you very much.

As I wrote in the accommodation section, when the number of people requesting a shared room is odd, it would be good to explain clearly how the rooms will be assigned. That way there wouldn't be any awkward feelings.

It was a completely different experience from any trip I've taken before - riding for hours on the vast grasslands and staying in a yurt were such rare experiences, and everyone I met was so lovely. It was a trip I'll remember for the rest of my life. Thank you very much. I want to go to Kyrgyzstan again!

    [Why I chose ASHU TRAVEL]
I saw a video of horse riding on Instagram and thought, "Where is this? I want to go!" Before I knew it, I had sent an inquiry.

    - Accommodation: Satisfaction ★4 / Good points: It was my first time staying in a yurt, so it was a valuable experience. / Could be improved: The number of people who requested twin rooms was odd rather than even, so I was the odd one out. On the first and second nights I had a single room, and the yurt was a room for three. I had heard the guesthouse at Issyk-Kul had twin rooms, so since I was the odd one out, I asked whether I'd be in a single, and after I had been shown to my room I was told there would be an extra charge. I only learned afterward that there were triple rooms, so I think if the number of people per room had been confirmed first before showing us to our rooms, there would have been no misunderstanding and no awkward feelings.
    - Round-trip transfers: Satisfaction ★5
    - Meals: Satisfaction ★5 / Good points: Every meal was delicious. I love watermelon, so I was happy to have watermelon at every meal.
    - Riding: Satisfaction ★5 / Good points: I could ride for hours on vast grasslands in a way you can't in Japan, so it was a lot of fun. / Could be improved: A bit more instruction on how to ride would have been nice.

I join riding trips because I love galloping flat out, and this time at Song-Kul the terrain was really easy to ride, so we got to race along many times and I was very satisfied. The horses also seemed friendlier than Mongolian horses – they let me come close and pet them, which made me happy. The meals at restaurants in local homes and in the yurts were all delicious; it’s the first time I’ve had such good food at every meal abroad. The yurt camp’s facilities were mostly well equipped, which was great. Our vehicle was a Mercedes and it never broke down, which was good too.
One thing: when cantering or riding long distances, sometimes there was no nomad at the front, and we couldn’t see where we were heading, which was mentally tiring – maybe that’s something to improve.
I’ve been recommending Kyrgyzstan to the people around me!

    What could be improved

It was great how flexibly you accommodated each member's requests, but on the other hand, it meant waiting time for the other members.

Before we split up at shopping and other spots, if you could tell us "what we'll do there (whether it's definite or depends on the situation)" and "what time we plan to leave," it would be easier for us to plan our own time and to make requests.

    - Round-trip transfers: Satisfaction ★4 / Good points: A guide came along on the transfers too, so even first-time travelers abroad can feel at ease! / Could be improved: We were split into two vehicles and one had no guide, so I'd like to be told before getting in how long it will take to reach the next rest stop (or at least the distance, if the time can't be predicted).
    - Meals: Satisfaction ★5 / Good points: Everything was truly delicious! The tour members shared dishes, so we could taste many at once. / Could be improved: It would be great if you could check with us about portion sizes before ordering (it made me sad to leave food we couldn't finish...)
    - Riding: Satisfaction ★5 / Good points: The scenery was amazing and so moving! The gentle horses chosen for beginners felt steady even for a first-timer.

It was my first time in Kyrgyzstan and my first time riding in four (?) years, so I was full of excitement and nerves, but thanks to the attentive support even before the trip, a wonderful guide and great fellow participants, I had a really fun time. The beautiful scenery of Song-Kul, the horses, the cows, playing on a swing like a kid again, soccer, archery, etc. Everything I saw and did was a first for me, and it was also my first time on an experience-based tour. On top of all the activities, you even took us to a Kyrgyz hot spring – I’m nothing but grateful. The meals were delicious too, and I was completely satisfied. I still have some unfinished business with the riding, so I hope to try again if I get the chance.

Temperature control in the yurt. I appreciated that they put lots of coal in the stove so we wouldn't get cold, but it got so hot I could hardly breathe; I couldn't stay inside the yurt for a while and couldn't sleep. I was also concerned that no smoke was coming out of the chimney.

Riding amid magnificent natural scenery was the best.
Thank you for giving us so many chances to learn about Kyrgyzstan, like getting a taste of nomadic life in a yurt and seeing the bazaars in town.
In a place where Japanese isn’t understood at all, having a guide in Japanese was the biggest help. I was also grateful that drivers handled almost all of our local transportation.
This tour was fully booked, so the tour price per person came out cheaper, which was a big help.
Next time I’d like to sightsee in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan as well.

A thoroughly enjoyable, truly refreshing trip

[8/8 Shared Tour, More Spots Added] Scenic Riding at Song-Kul, Kyrgyzstan's Lake in the Sky - Obon Holiday 6-Day/5-Night Tour [Beginners Welcome]

    S.I. 20s / Female

    August 2026

It was a thoroughly enjoyable, truly refreshing trip!!
Riding amid breathtaking scenery brought a thrill I could never have imagined.
I was a beginner who had hardly ridden at all apart from trying it when I was little, but on the last day I got to experience a little cantering.
From a walk to a trot, and the moment it changed from a trot to a canter, the jolting I’d been feeling disappeared, and it was as if I had lifted off and was gliding – I could feel the scenery rushing past! My body felt light, and it was as if I’d become one with the horse, flying gracefully.
Getting to feel this in the great outdoors beside a lake in Kyrgyzstan is an experience I’ll never forget.
Also, thanks to the Japanese-speaking guide, I got to discover so many charms of Kyrgyzstan – its people, nature, food and culture – and I’ve come to love the country.
I definitely want to visit again, and I’d love for lots of other people to experience it too.
Thank you so much for letting me join such a wonderful, charming tour, and for all your consideration that let me enjoy it with peace of mind from start to finish!

    [Why I chose ASHU TRAVEL]
I had been following Sugi's posts on Instagram for a long time and was curious. Then the tour was featured on TV, and I was very drawn to the personalities of Nuriya, Sugi and the team. I felt I could join with peace of mind, so I chose ASHU TRAVEL's tour!

    - Accommodation: Satisfaction ★4 / Good points: The Ashu Guesthouse was very comfortable and cozy! / Could be improved: To keep the yurt from getting cold at night, the people running the camp kindly added firewood to the stove inside. Thanks to that it was very warm, but at times it got quite hot and it was hard to sleep. (I think it reached a dangerously hot level.) They came by often to adjust it despite being busy, and I feel bad being picky, but if we had been given an explanation in advance so that participants could adjust the temperature inside the yurt ourselves, I think we could have stayed with even more peace of mind.

I could travel with peace of mind in a country whose language I didn’t know at all

8/8 Canter Halfway Around Song-Kul, the Lake in the Sky + Falconry & Hot Springs | Departing Bishkek, Obon Holiday Special 8-Day/7-Night Riding Tour

    MT 90s / Female

    August 2026

It was my first time in a country whose language I didn’t know at all, yet I could travel with peace of mind. I’ve joined other canter tours before, but I feel ASHU’s tour let us experience authentic local culture just as it is, from what we did on horseback to the food. Through the atmosphere of the nomads, their horse tack and the horses themselves, I even felt I had touched the very essence of Kyrgyzstan. During the trip, especially during our stay at Song-Kul, I was deeply moved to realize that the world of the epic of Manas, which I had read before the trip, is still alive today. It was also really wonderful to enjoy local food every day… I can’t believe I never knew such delicious food existed…

    Nuriya, and others

Nuriya always looked out for the participants in so many ways. I don't think the Kyrgyzstan trip would have been possible without her. Also, though there's no option for them here, every one of the drivers and the horsemen (the local nomads) was the best. I'm also grateful to the local people who prepared delicious meals for us every day!

In situations where people had different needs - what they wanted to see or buy (SIM cards, souvenirs, etc.) - I thought splitting into teams or setting a time to regroup would let everyone do more of what they wanted.

Kyrgyzstan is a country rich in nature, and through this trip I’ve come to love it. Song-Kul, which can only be visited in summer, left a particularly strong impression. Surrounded by the magnificent landscape around the lake, I forgot my usual busy life and had a special feeling of being one with nature. It was also my first time riding a horse, and it was more fun than I imagined; riding across the grasslands with the wind in my face is a memory I’ll never forget. I could fully feel the appeal of Kyrgyzstan’s great outdoors, and it was a very fulfilling trip.

If I could ask for one more thing, I'd have liked a little more time at the supermarket and the bazaar. But besides horse riding, we got to do so much: falconry, archery, a horse-cart ride, crossing the border on foot, the Burana Tower. I really enjoyed it.

The sunrise near the yurt where we stayed, and Song-Kul seen from high ground.

    [Guide's hospitality]
When car trouble left us waiting in the middle of nowhere, she quickly came up with the idea of cutting a watermelon by the river and turning it into a picnic. Instead of getting stressed about the trouble, we could relax and enjoy the setting sun. She taught us that in Kyrgyzstan people eat watermelon together with biscuits, and that was delicious too! While we were riding she often asked whether we were tired, and she answered every question carefully each time (even ones others had already asked).

(From the rest of my trip after the tour) I've finished my travels in Uzbekistan and made it back home safely. I bought plenty: a suzani, an enamel pot I found at the flea market, 2 kg of dried fruit, a big Samarkand naan... (and 3 kg of honey in Kyrgyzstan!), and I lugged it all home through sheer determination. In Uzbekistan it was so hard to resist buying things (lol).

It was a total package that squeezed Kyrgyzstan’s many faces (countryside, mountains and the capital Bishkek) into one week. Things to improve: I wish I’d known in advance that crossing the border from Kazakhstan meant walking with our luggage, and the meeting point with the car after riding should be double-checked.

    [Most memorable scenery/spot]
On the way to Lake Kol-Kogur, the range of 5,000-7,000 m peaks that suddenly spread out right in front of us.

    [Guide's hospitality]
Nuriya's calm, gentle personality was wonderful. I also had deep conversations with Janara, who came along to help, and the horsemen were very skilled. It was a really fun team.

    [Why I chose ASHU TRAVEL]
Had the tour I wanted / Recommended by someone I know

    [Ratings by category]
    - Accommodation: ★5 / Comments: Every day was a different place, and each one was interesting. At ASHU Guesthouse there was nowhere to put things around the washbasin; it would be nice to have a stand and a mirror in the room, or a place in the bathroom for clothes and cosmetics (already requested to Stanbek).
    - Meals: ★5 / Comments: The white honey was outstanding. Nuriya recommended all sorts of Kyrgyz dishes and every one was delicious. The restaurant at the end, where you pick your own trout and they cook it both charcoal-grilled and fried, would be a hit with Japanese travelers.
    - Horse riding: ★5 / Comments: I rode up and down the mountains as one with my horse while taking in amazing scenery. Suggestions: (1) Have everyone involved check the meeting point with the car on the last day on a map in advance (this time there was a mix-up and we waited 2 hours in the blazing sun). (2) Riding on the road for over an hour from the guesthouse to the mountains was exhausting, and the dust from construction was hard on my lungs, so I think it would be better to go by car up to the start of the mountain trail.

I truly enjoyed Kyrgyzstan’s winter wilderness

Winter Scenic Horse Riding in Kyrgyzstan | Starting in Bishkek! A Snowy Adventure

    T.H.

    February 2026

Thank you for the five days. I truly enjoyed the great outdoors of Kyrgyzstan in winter. Riding across the snowfields in particular is a memory I’ll never forget. The beauty and stillness of the scenery were beyond what I had imagined. Our guide Nuriya was kind and explained everything carefully, so I felt at ease. She taught us a lot about the local culture and way of life, and I learned so much. Our driver Ernest always drove safely, and even the long drives were comfortable.

    [Guide's hospitality]
In the time before lunch at Issyk-Kul, they took us down to the lake and we could go in the water, which was fun. They adapted flexibly so we could enjoy Kyrgyzstan even in our free time. Raku, our guide who could even speak the Kansai dialect of Japanese, and Damir, who taught us so much about Kyrgyzstan through translation and drove carefully - Рахмат!

    - Meals: ★4 / Comments: The portions were too big to finish; smaller would have been better. But every meal had lots of variety and was delicious.
    - Horse riding: ★4 / Comments: Our guide Raku asked what we wanted to do on horseback, and I was so happy I got to canter. I wanted to ride a bit more, so it would be helpful if the schedule showed approximate riding times.

    - Accommodation: ★5 / Comments: Both the exterior and the interior were lovely, and the heating and air conditioning were comfortable. The door of Room 37 was poorly fitted and took some force to lock. There was trash such as plastic bottles and snack wrappers outside the guesthouse fence and near the generator, which I thought might be dangerous.
    - Meals: ★5 / Comments: The pirozhki were amazing, and I got hooked on tea with raspberry jam.
    - Horse riding: ★5 / Comments: It was great to ride through the mountains. I'd like to join in another season too.

    - Accommodation: ★5 / Comments: ASHU Guesthouse was comfortable and relaxing - simply the best. The hotel in Almaty kept a Soviet-era charm while having a clean, lovely interior.
    - Meals: ★5 / Comments: I got to enjoy Kyrgyz and Kazakh cuisine to the fullest.
    - Horse riding: ★3 / Comments: I was happy with the scenery and the calm atmosphere. On the other hand, I had some safety concerns. In Kazakhstan it was hard to communicate with the horsemen, and at one point Nuriya's horse refused to move. On the first day in Kyrgyzstan many of the horses were high-strung, and there was one scary moment after another, with horses bolting out of control and riders falling off (they seemed on edge because horses kept in different places had been brought together). On the second day, they arranged calm horses for us. Going forward, in both Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, I'd feel safer if the standard were 'experienced horses that carried ASHU guests on the previous tour.'

I'd love it if you offered a riding camp (beginner to intermediate).

    [Most memorable scenery/spot]
Kyrgyzstan's nature seen from horseback, and the scenery on my morning walks around ASHU's lodging.

    [Guide's hospitality]
They showed us some riding tricks when we asked. When a kok-boru (horseback sport) match was going on during our ride, they also made time for us to watch because we said we wanted to see it.

    [Why I chose ASHU TRAVEL]
Japanese-speaking guide / Affordable tour price / Had the tour I wanted / Found it online / Drawn in by Sugiura's introductions to Kyrgyzstan

    [Ratings by category]
    - Accommodation: ★4 / Comments: The interior and the meals at the lodging were very good. However, the shower water pressure in the guest rooms at ASHU's lodging was far too low, and not being able to wash my hair after getting sweaty from riding was tough.
    - Meals: ★5 / Comments: The food tasted wonderful. The one thing to improve is the portion size - it was so good that I felt bad leaving food.
    - Horse riding: ★4 / Comments: I loved being able to ride up slopes and through rivers, which beginners usually aren't allowed to do in Japan, to walk with the horses along paths lined with wildflowers and take in amazing views, and to have those views all to ourselves as a tour group. One thing to improve: passing cars on narrow roads felt a little scary.

    [Most memorable scenery/spot]
The whole trip to Kyrgyzstan. What stays with me most is a spot just a short walk from the guesthouse, early on the last morning, where I could see the wintry mountain ranges all around me, 360 degrees. The drives were fun too, and the lake we gazed at after getting out of the car to have fruit tea and bread was amazing.

    [Guide's hospitality]
We talked a lot and had fun. Everyone was so adaptable - like the moment a light nudge in conversation turned into a drive to the lake - and it made the trip really fulfilling.

The shared-tour format makes the price lower and easy to join

    Issyk-Kul 4 Days, 3 Nights from Bishkek

    F.T. 30s / Female

    July 2026

The tour builds in the interests and wishes of whoever books first, so it was a rare chance to travel in a way that’s different from a typical package tour. The shared-tour format also lowers the price, which makes it easy to join. Mornings started at a relaxed pace, which was easy on the body, and I was happy to have time to stroll around our lodgings and get a glimpse of local life. Next time, I think an itinerary that lets you take each stay more slowly, such as two nights at the same place, would be nice too.

    - Horse riding: ★4 / Comments: It was my first time riding a horse on my own and I was nervous, but I felt secure enough to enjoy the scenery. The two rides were in completely different places, so each one felt fresh. With thick pants, it was hard to close the zipper on the half chaps, so larger sizes would be helpful.

    Horse riding satisfaction: ☆☆☆☆☆

Horse riding – good points and things to improve: There was a cushion on the saddle, so I felt my backside was less likely to get sore.

We got to do things we never could have done on our own

    M.M / Male

    August 2025

    Plan booked:

Day 1: Guide + driver – “Bishkek to Issyk-Kul Customized One-Day Private Tour”

Day 2: Driver only arranged by us; horse riding arranged by the guests themselves

*Below are the guests’ comments on the parts we arranged.

    Tour dates (start date): 2025/08/10

Why I chose ASHU TRAVEL: Japanese-speaking guide, Good value with lodging/meals/transfers included

Satisfaction with Central Asia’s “spectacular scenery”: ☆☆☆☆ Exceeded expectations

Most memorable scenery or scenic spot: The mountain views around Issyk-Kul, and the horses, cows, sheep and other animals taking it easy

    Meal satisfaction: ☆☆☆

Meals – good points and things to improve:

I would have liked fruit or dessert with dinner

It was nice that both bread and rice dishes were served

I’d really like you to work on allergy accommodations too

since quite a few people have various dietary requirements, such as vegans

    Guide’s service: ☆☆☆☆

What stood out about the guide’s hospitality:

A bright person who answered all kinds of questions right away; the guide understood Japanese people well, and the service was wonderful

The next day, too, the guide interpreted between us and the driver over the phone and helped us decide where to go

    Overall tour satisfaction: ☆☆☆☆

Tour – good points and things to improve:

We got to do things we never could have experienced on our own

The home cooking was really delicious

I wish communication with the driver on Day 2 had gone a little more smoothly

About Day 2, we were vague on our side too, but

I think it might have been better to get suggestions, such as adding a guide, in the emails before departure

For example, “With a guide, there’s this kind of plan at the lake”

or “How about going to the mountains and stopping at a small hot spring?” – suggestions like that would be welcome

We had said we’d plan it ourselves, but

in the end we didn’t have the time or energy to make plans.

    Talking about horseback riding,

one of the great things about Kyrgyzstan
is that if you ride or walk here, you realize there’s no fences

their cattle close in near the house in the wintertime
    there’s no fences at all
It’s like the American West was 200 years ago

You can’t do that in Europe,
and you can’t do that in the United States or Canada anymore

    And, it’s really reasonable price

The other day we went out, we spent four hours riding
The guest house packed us up a lunch we took out

We rode two hours up into the mountains,
broke for lunch Two hours back,

At the end of the day, he charged me 1,500 kyrgyz som,

    which is just under $20

So you can see that this is, an amazing economical place

    to have amazing life-changing adventures

He looked after us with such care and enthusiasm and introduced us to some of the most amazing local food spots we would never have found on our own.

It was an adventure we’ll cherish forever!

I booked this trip via the homepage and was paired with a korean couple. We had an amazing trip with Aibek driving us safely even through rough weather and terrain and Sholpan explaining and answering questions in excellent English.

The landscape are just breath taking and we had a lot of fun in our tiny group. The guest houses were well chosen and clean with delicious food.

I can only recommend using this website since this is a service making tour planning so much easier, safer and cheaper not only for solo travelers.

Thanks to Aibek for an outstanding trip!

We did a really nice 3 days trip around Altyn-Emel, Charyn Canyon and Kolsai and Kaindy lakes.
The landscape was amazing, the home made food was really tasty and that local sauna in Saty was something!
    Thank you Aibek for everything!

An extraordinary experience you can’t get in Tokyo

    S / Male

Kyrgyzstan is a truly vast place. The city is urban, but

once you head into the mountains, you can really see the horizon stretching far into the distance,

and your sense of what “vast” really means gets even sharper.

It was an experience you can’t have in Tokyo.

Come join a horse trekking tour! It’s a lot of fun.

    I recommend Issyk-Kul

    I / Male

We got to swim in Issyk-Kul, and

it stays shallow far out, and the water is incredibly clear and beautiful,

    warm, and just slightly salty.

If you want to go swimming, I think Issyk-Kul is a really fun place to do it.

    Please come visit!

    H / Male

When it comes to Central Asia,

I think most people picture deserts or somewhere much drier, but

    forests, clear water, highlands…

you can see that side of Central Asia in Kyrgyzstan too.

    Please come, everyone.

And be sure to eat the melons!

    Christine C, Kazakhstan

I was traveling in Kazakhstan with two friends and booked a tour for the first two days. We had planned to visit Lake Kaindy, Black Canyon, Moon Canyon and Cherin Canyon.

Not only did we get to see the wonderful scenery of Kazakhstan, but thanks to our guide and driver, we were able to spend a wonderful time together.

The first tour was wonderful, so I joined the same company’s tour again. We also visited Altyn-Emel, Aktau, and other places with singing sand dunes for two days.

On these two tours, my friend and I felt completely swept away not only by the kindness of the guides and drivers, but also by their knowledge and the joy of sharing their history and culture.

They showed us the beauty of preserved places that not many people go to without hesitation.

At the various guesthouses where I spent the night, I was able to relax like a member of the family.
The food was prepared by the locals, and I was able to taste the delicious and abundant traditional cuisine of this country. The guesthouse cooks cooked the food with all their heart and kindness.

I strongly recommend this company’s tours, which allow you to fully experience the charm of Kazakhstan. Aibek, Safar, Aiden and Almaz are now my friends, wonderful people who made my trip to Kazakhstan unforgettable.

    Ms. MS

I was a little under the weather in Kazakhstan, but I recovered after eating the delicious food at the Ash Guest House, and I was able to enjoy the rest of my schedule.

The horseback riding at Songkhla Lake was also a very enjoyable experience, thanks to the calm nature of the horses and the support of the horse owner who accompanied us.

Above all, Nuriya-san’s Japanese was very good, and she was like an older sister who was close to my age, so I was able to trust her very much.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mr. Nagaoka for his help with arranging the trip and responding to my inquiries in advance. (I apologize for asking you so many detailed questions and causing you trouble.)

    Thank you very much!
