This is Sugi from ASHU TRAVEL, scenic journeys in Central Asia.

If you come to Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, one place you really should visit is Chorsu Bazaar (Chorsu Bozori).

Its size and energy are incredible: imagine Osaka’s Kuromon Market and Tsuruhashi combined and then expanded even further. Personally, I think Uzbekistan, with its talent for business, has a lot in common with Osaka.

In this article, I’ll give you a compact guide to the highlights of this lively market spreading out beneath its blue dome!

What Is Chorsu Bazaar?

A market with more than 100 years of history. Here are some tips for getting there without getting lost.

By metro

The nearest station is, fittingly, Chorsu station.

There are exits at both ends of the platform. If you come up from the east exit, the fruit and vegetable stalls spread out right in front of you and you’re instantly swept up in the bazaar’s energy. The west exit leads directly to the area with clothing stalls.

By taxi or bus

If you’re going by taxi or bus, head for Navoi Avenue, which runs along the south side of the bazaar.

Entering the bazaar from the left side of the famous historic Kukeldash Madrasa makes the route easy to follow.

Joining a tour with transfers

For first-timers or those who want to shop efficiently, we recommend a guided tour. You won’t have to worry about hailing taxis in an unfamiliar place or getting lost inside the maze-like bazaar, so getting around is stress-free.

Also, since Uzbek and Russian are the main languages in Uzbekistan, independent travelers often struggle with checking their change or haggling, but with a guide you can shop smoothly without worrying about the language barrier.

Food That Will Make You Hungry! The Goods That Caught My Eye at Chorsu Bazaar

What surprises you as you walk around Chorsu Bazaar is how extensive the areas for household goods and crafts are. Every time you pass through another maze-like aisle, the traditional beauty of Uzbekistan jumps out at you.

An overwhelming variety!
