[Updated Regularly] For Central Asia Travelers Concerned About Iran-Related News | On-the-Ground Updates from Kyrgyzstan and Neighboring Countries

Salamatsyzby! This is Sugi from ASHU TRAVEL, your partner for scenic horse riding trips in Central Asia.

News about the situation around Iran keeps coming in, and we’ve been hearing concerns from travelers planning trips to Central Asia.

For the latest news and overall developments, please check social media and news outlets. Here, I’d like to share what I’ve seen myself as someone living in Kyrgyzstan, along with information from our local guides in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.

The situation as of March 6, 2026

In Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, we have so far received no reports of any major changes in the cities in the popular sightseeing areas where ASHU’s guides work.

I live in Kyrgyzstan, and daily life is going on as usual. Cafes and shops are operating normally, and no major incidents have been reported.

That said, people here are saddened by the news and say they hope peace will come as soon as possible.

Things I noticed

Feb 28: Crowded airport in Uzbekistan

On February 28, I went to Tashkent, Uzbekistan. When I met our local Japanese-speaking guide, she told me, “The airport was packed with people today and it was chaos.” It seemed that, in response to the situation in neighboring countries, more people were dealing with flight cancellations or rushing to travel.

Mar 1: Dubai flights canceled; flights within Central Asia operating

The next day, when I went to Tashkent airport to fly back to Kyrgyzstan, some flights, including those to Dubai, had been canceled. There weren’t many people that day, but I did see some people waiting anxiously about canceled flights.

My flight from Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan had no problems.

Mar 2: A guest changed their solo travel itinerary

A guest who had been traveling around Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan on our tour was planning to visit Pakistan on their own afterward, but let us know they had changed their itinerary.

Their tour itself went smoothly, but connecting flights and travel to neighboring countries currently call for careful judgment.

Mar 7: No particular danger reported in the four countries; tours running without issues

We have received no particular safety warnings from our local guides or guests in Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. Our private tours are running as usual.

However, for now we recommend avoiding the areas of Tajikistan close to the Afghan border.

*Separately from anything related to Iran, we do not offer tours around the Pamir Mountains because of ongoing road construction.

Advisory from Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (March 5)

On March 5, Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a travel advisory. It covers neighboring countries such as Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Pakistan.

If you plan to travel on to any of these countries after your trip around Central Asia, please take a look.
