[Kyrgyzstan News] Major Construction Underway at Manas Airport | New Terminal Scheduled for Completion in 2026

Salam! This is Sugi from ASHU TRAVEL, your guide to Central Asia’s breathtaking landscapes.

Manas International Airport, Kyrgyzstan’s main gateway, is about to be completely transformed. As of November 2025, work on the terminal exterior is underway, and if you go there now, the entire airport is already surrounded by temporary hoarding.

New Terminal Scheduled for Completion in 2026

According to the official announcement:

  • Completion is scheduled for summer 2026
  • A modern, “comfortable and functional terminal” that meets international standards is being built
  • Construction is proceeding with a focus on progress, quality control, and schedule
  • During construction, entry to the terminal is restricted to “passengers only”
  • A temporary “arrivals monitor” has been set up near the entrance so people can check arriving flights from outside

[On-the-Ground Report] What Is It Actually Like?

Here’s what it really looked like when I went to meet arriving guests.

● Exterior: The entire terminal is wrapped in large covers

The outside of the airport is completely covered in construction sheeting, so much so that for a moment you’re not sure where the entrance is.
What I noticed most was how hard it is to park.
The line of pickup cars backs up easily, and drivers have to be even more careful than usual.

● Inside: Officially “passengers only,” but in practice others can get in

Officially, only passengers are allowed inside.

That said, it’s not strictly enforced, so taxi touts and guides meeting guests still get in…
Still, the lobby was quieter than usual, and I was struck by how few taxi touts there were.

If You’re Planning a Trip

The construction around Manas Airport makes things temporarily inconvenient, but the airport is still fully operational, so it won’t have a major impact on your trip.

If anything, the new terminal due to be completed in 2026 should make traveling to Kyrgyzstan even more comfortable.
We’ll report back from the ground as soon as we have the latest news.
